Tinnitus

There is actually a word for it. Have you ever heard of it before now?

It's only been in the last few months that I hear it constantly; it's one of the reasons I need some kind of noise like a movie going on to go to sleep. If it's quiet, the buzzing is louder. I don't like loud noises, because it hurts my ears. Considering I have this constant sound going on, it's hard to find peace and a happy medium. I know I'm not the only one with this condition, according to articles I've researched, there are millions that suffer from it. It does make it hard to rest. Hard to hear things, especially voices.

Tinnitus is a condition characterized by the perception of noise, such as ringing or buzzing, in one or both ears without an external sound source. It can be a symptom of various underlying conditions, and while there is currently no cure, there are management strategies available to help cope with its effects. Common causes include exposure to loud noises, ear infections, and age-related hearing loss. Tinnitus is when you have noise present in your ears that others don’t hear. About 26 million adults in the United States have tinnitus, says Joy Onozuka, director of community engagement and communications at the American Tinnitus Association. For some, the effects of tinnitus are minor but for about 20 percent of those who have tinnitus, constant ringing in the ears can distract their sleep and concentration, and cause anxiety and depression.

House Plants

I went over a year without a plant in my life. I had sold off all my indoor and outdoor potted plants when the house sold. There is just something about plants that make a house a home, fresh and appealing. I've missed my babies. Recently a friend moved from Washington to California and before she left, she made babies of some of the plants I had given her. In addition, she loaded me up with several plants she wasn't able to take with her. It took a couple truck loads just to move the plants she did take. It took me a couple carloads to bring the ones for me that she gave me. All of which are now growing happily in the house where I am at. A couple are in despair thanks to Sylvester who happens to love chewing on them. There are not enough high windows to protect all of them, so it's a bit of a battle between him and I to keep him out of them. He's getting better, learning takes time. I'm still on the hunt to replace a few that I had and enjoyed growing. During my hunt I've come across a few good links to share for those interested in house plants.
